Blueberry Smoothie Recipe Featuring Figs and Yogurt

Blueberry Smoothie Recipe Featuring Figs and Yogurt

If you think the Fig is used only in the iconic “Fig Newton” cookie, you have not been paying attention. Besides being a featured ingredient in this blueberry smoothie recipe, figs are enjoying a burst of popularity because of their health benefits (dietary fiber, iron, calcium and potassium, no sodium) and their great taste. This treat proves that blueberries and figs mix well together for a tasty result.

Its also easy to turn this blueberry smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
3-4 large figs (be sure to remove the stems)
1 tsp. Chia seed
Ice to Taste
