Currants, which are often rich-colored red or black berries, are an excellent source of vitamin C, fiber, and are found to be a good source of potassium too.
The best time for currants is June through August-but if you live in the south you will see them sneaking into the fruit markets sometimes as early as late April or May. You can also find them frozen.
Fresh or frozen they make up a rich flavored smoothie mix you are sure to enjoy! This is one of those fruits that tastes good and is often found in juicing recipes, or in healthy smoothies made with yogurts. A sweet treat that adds a whole lot of great nutrients to your body in a very delicious way!
-1 cup of fresh or frozen currant berries
-1 cup of frozen banana chips
-1 small apple peeled, cored and cut in small chunks
-1 cup of chilled apple juice
-1 teaspoon of Mila
It doesn’t get any healthier or more delicious than this! Blend, pour and enjoy!
